More Than One Way to Uno

We talk about how to emphasize mathematical thinking in the normal game of Uno on our Game page. However, the official game of uno may be too advanced for kids of this age, they can do other activities with a deck of uno cards. At this age I wouldn’t recommend giving them the entire deck because it could be overwhelming. Most activities to be done with the deck of cards for this age should be parent focused.
One of these activities is matching or sorting the cards in the deck. Parents/guardians can take a stack of cards and put them in piles according to their colors or numbers. While they do this they should talk through the process, labeling the colors and numbers on the cards and talking through their mental reasoning for how each card was sorted.
