On a hot summer day while your child plays outside, give them a plastic bowl with a few ice cubes. Allow them to play with the ice and make observations about what is happening. Encourage your child to talk about those observations

- ice is getting smaller, ice is melting, etc. Depending on the child's interest, you can talk about changing from solid to liquid, the effects of the sun or temperature on the ice, words such as cold, etc. Help your child make observations about the ice and to put the observations into words.
