Counting down time until an event happens can be a fun-filled way to build anticipation for an upcoming event. Whether you choose to countdown by minutes, hours, or days, be creative with the count down. Encourage your child to create some clues of their own!

Example: We will go to the playground in a dozen minutes.

I'll read a story in 19-8 minutes.

We leave for vacation in the absolute value of negative ten days.

in 6 + 3 days your grandma will visit!

In a week and a day, school will be on summer break.

The square root of 49 is how many days until your first train ride!

As you count down to the next number, have your child write some for you to solve.

This is a good way to use different vocabulary and include different math tasks, and can be adjusted to different abilities.
