Puzzles are really good exercise for our brains and can help us develop and strengthen our visuospatial skills and fine motor skills.

Puzzles can be great for children of all ages and the age of the child should determine the number and size of the pieces. Children ages 3-5 are going to be able to do slightly more complicated puzzles. Their fine motor and visuospatial skills are a little stronger and therefore they can do more intricate puzzles that will help them grow. They will also start to struggle less with the completion of the puzzle and need less help.

Even though 3-5 year-old children need less help than their younger counterparts, they still may need assistance. We need to let these children struggle a bit but not expect them to be able to do it alone. We need to find ways to help them without making the puzzle too simple. It is important that children learn how to do hard things and keep pushing through.
