If you could use an extra set of hands and sometimes wish children were able to help, this article will give you practical ways to involve your little ones while also helping them develop some mathematical reasoning skills.

One thing children can help with is the laundry. They can help you separate whites from colors before the laundry starts, sort the clothes into piles of different clothing items, and match socks. Separating and matching different clothes introduces children to the concept of similar and different and increases their knowledge. They will also learn big, small, larger, and smaller. Another way to have children help around the house is to have them help you with putting the groceries away when you come home. They can help you carry the bags of groceries into the home, and put some of the groceries away. If you want, you can sort the foods with them to help them. In addition to sorting groceries into categories, they will also learn math concept words such as heavy, light, and relative weight terms like heavier and lighter.
