If you could use an extra set of hands and wish your little ones were able to help this article will give you practical ways to involve your children while also helping them develop mathematical reasoning skills.
One way to have your children help is to have them help you sort laundry. They can do this before you start the laundry, helping you separate whites from colors and after the laundry is dried by helping you put the clothes into piles of different items, and even matching socks. Separating and matching different clothes by size or by who the clothes belong to, introduces children to the concept of similar and different. Another way to have children help around the house is to have them help you put the groceries away when you come home. If you explain to them what you want where, you can ask the child to help you sort the foods into categories or sections in your kitchen. If you want, you can sort the foods with them to help them begin to understand the concept. It would even be beneficial for your child if you count the foods with them and work on numbers.
