Being given chances to use their imaginations is very important for young children. One great way to let children use their imaginations is by giving them wooden blocks to play with. As children in the age range of 0-2 get older they may also enjoy playing with large legos. We touched on what benefit kids can get from blocks and legos a little in our post called “Let’s Learn to Move and Build,” check it out here!

Blocks and legos can help with our children’s visuospatial skills and give them a fun way to play. Moving the blocks around and manipulating them by pushing together and pulling apart legos, is great fine motor skill practice. If the blocks we give are colored or even just different shapes, they can be very captivating and stimulating for children and they will learn about colors and shapes. They can use their imaginations to create anything they want and the blocks can be anything they want them to be. This building for fun also introduces engineering design principles like concepts on sturdy and non-standard structures. Try to use what they are doing to talk through things like colors, numbers, and shapes.
