Number Formation Version
Each person playing needs a whiteboard or a scrap piece of paper and a marker.
The person giving the clue should pick a number and write it to describe the way they wrote the number. (They can be described using the number formation rhymes in the songs page.)
The guesser should then try and write the number they heard described.
They both should flip their pages at the same time so they can see if the guesser was correct or not.
Number Riddles
One person should describe a number
Describe your number as odd/even, give the number of digits, a span of digits your number is within, and/or the sum of all your number’s digits.
Then the guesser can write out their guesses and work through it.
Eventually they should guess a number and the prompter can tell them if they are right or wrong.
Ex: I’m an even number between 20-50. The sum of my digits is 7. What number could I be?
Place Value Riddles
In this version, you describe the number by the digits in each of the place values.
Describe what number is in each place, how many of each place you have.
Ask the guesser what your number is and see if they got it right.
For example:
I’m thinking of a number with a 7 in the hundreds place, 4 tens, and 3 ones. What number am I thinking of?
My number has 14 tens and 2 ones. What is my number?
Digits and Place
One player thinks of a number that is recognizable for their partner. (It should be 2-3 digits)
When the prompter is ready they say how many digits are in the number.
Then the guesser can pick any number with that number of digits.
Once they make a guess, the prompter tells them how many digits were right, and if any of the place values were right.
For example, if the number was 45, the game may look like this:
The guesser said: 20 - They got 0 digits and 0 places
The guesser said: 15 - They got 1 digit and 1 place
The guesser said: 35 - They got 1 digit and one place
The guesser says: 64 - They got 1 digit and 0 places
The guesser says 45 - They got 2 digits and 2 places, they got the number!
Tip: do not pick a number with a repeated digit and keep them between 2-3 digits!
