You may have played this game before and not known there was math involved. This is a really good game to develop strategic thinking and problem solving strategies. In order to play this game you can draw a square of your own dots, or feel free to download and print the template we have attached at the end of this post.

  • This game can be played with as many players as desired but would work best with 2-4 players.

  • The first step in playing this game is to draw a board or find one to use. We have provided one for you below if you desire to use it.

  • The youngest player goes first and play moves clockwise from then on.

  • On every turn, a player connects any two dots on the board to make a line.

  • The goal of the game is to be the player that draws the line to complete a 4 sided box.

    • For example if you draw one line (blue) and your opponent draws the other two (red), then you finish the box (blue), it is your point.

ree
  • Once you complete a box, you should either color in the box with your color or write your initials and you should tally it at the bottom of the page.

  • After you complete a box, you should take another turn. If that turn completes another box, repeat the process.

  • Your turn ends when you draw a line that does not complete a box.

  • The game continues in this way until the board is full of boxes

  • At the end of the game, the person with the most boxes wins.

This game covers the following mathematical concepts:

  • Addition

  • Strategic thinking

  • Problem solving
