Variation #1
Give your child three different sized paper plates. Give the child enough items to fill all three plates without overlap.
After the child places at least one item on one plate, count them.
Ask the child to estimate how many items are on the other three plates and justify their estimation.
Variation #2
Give your child three different sizes of paper plates.
Give the child more items than are needed to put on the plates.
Based on the size of the plate and the size of the items, the child estimates how many items are on each size plate without overlap.
