If you could use an extra set of hands and wish your little ones were able to help this post will give you practical ways to involve your children while also helping them develop some mathematical reasoning skills.

One way to have your children help is to have them help you sort laundry. Starting between 1 ½ and 2 years old children should be able to help you sort clothes. They can help separate whites from colors and put the clothes into piles of items, socks, shirts, pants, etc, and even help match socks. Separating and matching different clothes, introduces children to the concept of similar and different and this will help them learn new words. Another way to have children help is let them help put the groceries away. Children around 1 ½ - 2 years old should be able to help in some ways. You can tell them where to put groceries or ask them to sort the foods into categories in your kitchen. You can sort the foods with them to help them begin to understand the concept and describe and count the foods with them to work on vocabulary and numbers.
